Matt is an Australian furniture and object designer/maker currently working out of theJamFactory in Adelaide. Through his brand MJP Studio, he develops products manufactured in local industry, limited-run handmade pieces, as well as conceptual designs for exhibition. Matt has exhibited nationally in various forms of the art, craft and design industry.
Born in Sydney, Matt completed a Bachelor of Environmental Design with Honours at the UTAS School of Architecture and Design, majoring in Furniture. He has consistently sought a hands-on approach in his design practice that has leant him a sound understanding of materials and a familiarity with the industrial and technological processes that enable efficient production.
Matt is interested in design achievements that solve problems — no matter how small. His work is inspired by the idea that the design of everyday objects can enhance the user’s life. He strives to create objects to be woven into the fabric of the family home: objects that are irreplaceable, indispensable, and cherished for life. Matt is highly conscious of designers’ responsibility to limit the throwaway nature of furniture and works to produce high-quality items that exceed their expected life cycles.
